THE JOHN SZUBA FILE

Fire Sergeant, Goshen Fire Department, Indiana

John Matthew Szuba is a sergeant with the Goshen Fire Department. On November 5, 2026, the State of Indiana charged him in St. Joseph Superior Court 2 with two counts of domestic battery. He has pleaded not guilty. He is presumed innocent, the case is pending, and a charge is an allegation, not a conviction. Nothing in this file treats it as anything else: the charges below are printed exactly as filed, and everything a court has actually decided is labeled decided.

This file is the public record on the case and on the decade of service in front of it: his career on the City of Goshen's own paper, a 2025 OWI case that is finished and decided on its docket — printed in full, including the count the State's case lost — and the records requests now running to complete the file. Where the record has not been produced yet, this file says so and names the request that settles it. Where a claim cannot be verified, it does not run.

Every file in this series is built the same way: public records, exhibited in full, and nothing in them that the paper does not say. Finish one file, and the next is waiting — the loop does not close.

THE SHAWN APPS FILE

Thirteen appointments. Six terminations for cause. Four waiver denials — every one of them in the training academy’s own ledger, and the departments kept hiring him anyway. This is the file that started the series: one officer’s whole career, in the government’s own paper.
